Once you have taken the Intro to Serging course and practiced threading and seaming on your serger, our Serging II - 8 Panel Skirt is a great way to put those skills to work.
This is an novice level course. STUDENTS NEED TO BRING THEIR OWN MACHINE WITH MANUAL.
Course content covered:
- Drafting a basic sewing pattern, cutting it out
- Modification to a simple pattern
- Cutting techniques for stretch fabric
- Assembly techniques using a seger or overlock machine
- Inserting elastic waistband
- Hemming the skirt
Fabric, thread, and elastic are available to purchase on site or you can bring your own stretch fabric to work with.
To determine how much fabric you need, measure your hip, and double it, divide by 8, then add that to the doubled number. You can purchase your fabric at our store, or you can pick up fabric elsewhere. We generally make these skirts out of a fabric with some stretch.
For example, lets say the seat measurement is 40. Doubled is 80" - divided by 8 = 10". 80 + 10 = 90"
90" = 2.3m This will give you enough fabric to make your skirt, with a little play.
Included in this course: thread, pattern
